Ebay for beginners: big profits selling typewriters on Ebay

Because they are bulky, often dirty, need lots of cleaning careful and sometimes repairs, most typewriters, old and modern, are overlooked and fetched low prices at local auction houses line.

Despite this, anyone willing to spend time cleaning, research, repair and, finally, a typewriter packaging find vendors willing on eBay in the UK and the U.S., and no doubt other country sites, too.

Typewriters prices do not always reach fabulous, but most early typewriters from the late 1800s and early 1900s rarely go unsold on eBay so it is almost always going to make money.

Recent eBay prices range from £ 73 for an early Empire Typewriter from 1892, to £ 380 for a typewriter Norma Salter Victorian tin carry original case. More unusual typewriter types attract higher prices as a Braille typewriter that went for £ 142 and a model of early double keyboard which reached nearly $ 127.

Outside of eBay some far higher prices were achieved for early and unusual patterns typewriter worth remembering at buying expeditions. For example, in a typewriter Merritt Sotheby's from 1895 was 715 pounds ago years, and Cologne in Germany's team value auction a rare Imperial Typewriter, one of three known to exist, between £ 7,000 and £ 8,000.

From the first typewriter was introduced commercially successful in the late 1860s many unusual designs have emerged, some plain and simple, complex and detailed incredibly. More complicated typewriters had double keyboards, one of the case, and the other for capital, and were created brass and mother of pearl hand painted with glorious gilded leaves and flowers. * There are no catalogs or price guides for old typewriters such as those found in the updated annually for postcards and stamps, coins and ceramics. Simply are not enough collectors, or typewriters, to warrant special announcements. Value, like many low volume collectibles is determined best at auction, and is the point where the price someone is willing to pay, which coincides with the current owner will accept. By far the highest prices are paid for typewriters in good, clean, working conditions, with or without restoration work.

* You must carefully clean typewriters getting right into the tiniest of grooves without causing damage to keys which are often long and thin and unexpectedly delicate. Here is just some small suggestions:

"A toothbrush and a nail brush can be useful.

For an initial mild cleaning equipment basically clean, try Endust or Pledge (Be cautious around decals (transfers), as occasionally these products can harm them).

For an even smoother and safer cleaning, simply use a few drops of dishwashing liquid dissolved in water.

Q-tips (similar to cotton buds) are very nice for cleaning hard to reach.

For initial dust removal, the connection of vacuum hose sold in equipment and supply computer stores and catalogs work very well!

* The best places to buy at auction are general or long established office equipment stores, but you rarely get a business of antiques and second hand dealers who invariably think old means valuable, for most items, and often wrong.

* This is one of those collectables you really need to study and learn what makes a higher value of the item and a more modern type valuable. websites and books listed later provide much useful information. Choose one or both of the books mentioned below, are full of pictures, and keep them close on the purchase of day.

* Do not wait for more than fifty pounds more or less in most early typewriters, but remember you can pick them up at very low prices in fact I've been collecting less than ten pounds in a local auction. The trick to making money is to buy typewriters in good condition, but dirty, and spend time cleaning, taking several large photographs for display from all angles for listing on eBay.

* Be careful about the costs of delivery. These early models are very heavy and can cost more way to have delivered what they are worth. Whenever possible, look for local buyers or others willing to pick up.
