But what does it mean to be green have to do with plumbing?

According to the California Energy Commission, the ratio of California's water-the Energy is fundamental. This is because water-related energy use consumes 19 percent of the state's electricity, 30 percent of its natural gas and 88 million gallons diesel fuel each year - and this demand is growing. This means that each gallon of water that reduces use of fossil fuels used in connection with drinking water. Indeed, using less water also equals less air pollution. Plumbing green is really about the use of energy saving devices, low-flow fixtures, and a little common sense when it comes to using water. If everybody in America would benefit from new innovations green plumbing, is estimated that could prevent 91 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every year!

Currently, an average family of four uses 116000-175000 gallons of water per year, so on our part to help the environment, we wanted to give you some ideas green plumbing and facts that have come together to show how save energy without sacrificing personal comfort. Our goal at George Salet Plumbing is to introduce the new green plumbing technology that provides the same amount of money or the superior level of comfort as traditional plumbing products, and also saves you and the planet at the same time!

Toilets use 26% of household water

Did you know the average person uses the toilet at least 2.5 times a day? This is a good reason to think about how to install a low-flow toilet. Originally, low-flow toilets had its problems, but have new low-flow toilets a powerful color and save 70% or 3.72 gallons of water on their counterparts from five gallons. That means a family of four that updates to a low-flow toilet a toilet 5 gallon would save 13,392 liters of water per year. With new low-flow toilets, you have to give up power washing, and in fact, low-flow toilets were full before, usually look nicer and quieter than the ancient baths. Also save money on their water and sewer bill for as long as you own the toilet.

Laundry service Use the 22% of household water

It is therefore important when you buy a new washing machine and dryer to make sure they are approved by ENERGY STAR. In addition, think buying a front loader washing machine, because they use much less water and are easier on your clothes. However, the most important thing you can do is always wash full loads! One way to do this is with a load of laundry from the washer. That way, when you have to wash a single item, you can throw the burden of others as well. This saves a great amount of water over an entire year. The new technology will also soon allow you to recycle their water from washing machines for use in toilets and irrigation, if you has a patio.

Showers use 17% of household water

Everyone loves a long hot shower, but it really can cost you a packet with a unrestricted shower head. However, a quality low-flow shower will feel good in high and low water pressures. Some have flow restrictors that can be reversed or removed to allow more water through low-pressure lines, allowing you to achieve the correct amount of water flow pressure. Others have limiters that work automatically. For example, Teledyne Water Pik has a high rating of "shower massage" shower head that automatically detects pressure of water available and adapted to deliver 2.5 gallons per minute.

Shower measured by the flow, which is the number of gallons delivered per minute (gpm). The flow is affected by water pressure, measured in pounds per square inch (psi). The greater the pressure that pushes water through pipes and showerheads, the greater the volume of water forced out. Water pressure at the top - 80 psi, for example - will drive more water through a shower head low pressure water for example 20 psi. This same principle is in effect when you do not turn on the water full blast. The water pressure varies from one community to another and even from house to house.

A few years ago, showers delivered about 5-8 gallons per minute (gpm) at 80 psi. The current standard for low-flow heads is 2.5 gpm at 80 psi. Some showerheads deliver only 1.6 gpm. It is easy to judge its current rate of flow showerheads. Just click a gallon under the head and the clock of time it takes to fill. If you fill in 15 seconds the flow is about 4 gallons per minute. If is complete in 10 seconds, the flow is closer to 6 gallons per minute. With a low flow head, take 24 seconds or more.

However, if you install a low flow shower head nominal 2 gallons per minute can save more than 6 gallons a head 36 gallons or more standard showers old or modified. New shower head technology has given us the feeling of large shower free of charge. Remember, you not only save on the cost of water, can also save on the cost of heating water for your shower.

Faucets use 16% of household water

Most new faucets use 2.25 gallons per minute, but you should consider installing a flow restrictor 0.5 liters in your bathroom. Think about it. How much water you need to brush teeth or wash your hands? In addition, turning off the water from the time they actually start brushing while clarification will save about 300 gallons year per person! And if you need hot water your bathroom sink to shave, you do not have running water until heated. Give us a call and we can tell you about a recirculation system or point of use water heater will have hot water in seconds. We can also install sensor faucets that automatically shut down if they are not in use.

Use Leak 14% of household water

It is hard to believe that 14% of water used in homes is due to leaking pipes. Toilets are the biggest culprits, with taps and showers are nearby. Even the irrigation systems that leak can be a problem. Other waste water pipes are old tub that are not completely stop when the water is also in the shower. That's water that is looking to pass directly down the drain without even get to enjoy it!

Caution: Most shower heads drip for up to two hours before stopping. To measure the amount of water your shower head is a waste, put a container under the showerhead or tub after a shower. If you have more than a half cup of water in it, you have a problem! All these leaks can cause huge water bills. If you fix a leak of this kind, however, you can save up to 391 gallons a year.

If you already have a low-flow toilet or not, always make sure your toilet is running efficiently. A leaky toilet can waste thousands of gallons of water a day! Yes, thousands of people. Two of the telltale signs of a leaky toilet are: 1) the toilet sounds like washing yourself or 2) water is turned on in the middle of the night itself.

So if you have a loss or get a big bill, water unexpectedly, you need to call a plumber

Bathrooms use 2% of household water

The simple pleasure of a relaxing bath is even better when you're saving water. Fill the bathtub, get in, and enjoy! To save hot water, no hot water left, only lit to heat the bathroom of the amount needed and convert it back when the water is overheating.

Dish uses 1% of water in the home The most important thing to do is run full loads! Pre-rinse dishes before running the dishwasher they thought uses the same amount of water as washing dishes twice, so only if absolutely necessary. If you always have to pre-rinse, it may be time for a new dishwasher! Always make sure a new ENERGY STAR dishwasher approved.

Other uses for the water into account the 2% of water use at home so I always use common sense and make sure that when water use is used wisely and sparingly!

Water Heating

There are four main ways to heat the water today and each has its advantages and disadvantages. The following is a brief description of each:

Solar Water Heating
The solar water heating is the most energy efficient way to heat water. Systems range from basic tank is mounted on the roof and painted black more sophisticated systems that make use of running water through vacuum tubes in a panel. While solar is the most energy efficient water heating, The major drawback is that when there is no sun can not have hot water. It is also possible for us all hot water and have to wait longer. However, most systems have some sort of backup for the rainy day and a high use days, and these solar powered hot water are always being improved.

Electric water heating
Electric water heating is almost 100% efficient, which means that the calorific value of energy power is transferred 100% to water. This may sound great in theory, but electricity is expensive compared to natural gas and process water heating with electricity time-consuming. Electric water heaters are capable of supplying hot water to an entire house or apartment usually have a tank to be isolated to avoid loss heat.

Tankless water heating gas
tankless water heating gas (or sometimes called the water heating the letter) works by running water through a heat exchanger copper tube is heated by a burner. Tankless water heaters can be up to modern 98% efficiency. A tankless water heater, when properly sized can provide a continuous flow of hot water, and when not in use, uses very little energy. On average, a tankless water heater can save up to 35% off heating costs if installed correctly. The downside to a tankless water heater is the cost of installation, and units should be cleaned every year or two depending on water quality and use.

Water Tank Type Gas Heating
Tank type water heaters are about 62% efficiency, however, some hybrid units can be as effective as 98%. New heaters tank-type gas are more environmentally friendly due to a new burner to reduce NOx emissions by up to 35%. The gas tank water heater are the kinds of advantages simplicity in design, cheap food, and relativity are inexpensive compared with other forms of heating water. The biggest drawback of the gas tank-type heater is its limited capacity, reduced efficiency, and the time it takes to heat water, although not as slow as supply.

So What kind of heater of water should I get?

The type of water heater that is right for you depends on what your hot water needs, if the water heater will be located, lifestyle, and of course your budget. If you have questions or would like a free quote, please email or call us for more information today.

Any advice for Staying "Green"?

There are many other steps you can take at home, so be green:

Install a water filter and reusable bottles or drinking glasses. commercial institutions might consider a hydration station that not only filters water, but disinfects the water when it is administered.
Be sure to make sure that your dryer is clean. A dryer vent clogged with lint and other things not only uses more energy to dry clothes, but can be a fire hazard.
Install a garbage disposal. A garbage disposal is green and actually obtained 1 point credit for the construction of Leeds points for green building. A garbage disposal can also help with the amount of waste going to landfills. There are even newer model of garbage disposals that run on water, so no electricity is used.
Install copper tubing. Green plumbers know copper tubing that is the natural choice for plumbing because green is long lasting, maintenance free, and a natural material that has been used for centuries to bring drinking water. Copper piping is guaranteed to last fifty years, which means that almost never have to be replaced.
Install Products Intelligent measuring irrigation water in the soil and adjust the watering time to meet the need of the soil.
Recycle everything you can.
Update your heating system the most efficient model possible.
Upgrade your thermostat.
Turn off the computer at night.
Buy a coffee maker that has a thermal carafe.
Use a level low-VOC paints when painting.
