Using kitchen islands to get more space

Kitchen islands are among the most popular items in the kitchen remodeling project. They offer versatility in design and functionality. People often added as part of a draft amendment in general. You can choose to combine the island with your countertops and cabinets or choose a granite island with wood or laminate surfaces.

Kitchen islands are available in a variety of colors, sizes and materials to suit to any home decor. Choose homestyle contemporary, country or summer cooking styles. Look through catalogs and home decorating magazines for options and unique designs available. Take notes on what you like and the features you need on your island.

Addition of kitchen islands

You can add an island easily, if you have enough space. Look at several islands and get the exact dimensions of the ones you like. Measure your kitchen, you will have to leave between forty and two forty-eight inches of space around the island. You want to make sure you can open the refrigerator, oven and dishwasher with ease.

To achieve sense of how much of an island address, try a little experiment. Find a piece of furniture in your house that is about the size and dimensions of the island. Move the cabinet in the kitchen and where you want the island to be located. Keep it there for about a week or more to help you decide if you can live with it. If it is too large, look for a model with smaller dimensions. Experiment with different sizes to find one that feels good.

There are no rules governing the height. It is a matter of preference and function. You need to decide what the area is used to determine how high to make the counter. + For the storage space, islands can be made to match the current box cookers and hobs. The government, drawers or a combination of both can be used to maximize storage space.

+ Sinks and appliances such as dishwashers and trash compactors can be added to an island rather than the cabinets.

+ Having an outlet added to one side. This is great for cooking with small appliances like electric mixers or blenders.

Portable Islands

A portable island gives you more desk area when you need it. These are a great alternative for small kitchens. You can buy one unassembled and put it together yourself easily. Laptops are usually on wheels, what to move out of the way when you need extra space.
